Really wishing I could sleep for the night but going to find dinner and stay up til it gets dark!

✈️ Turkish Airlines: great! Comfortable seats, nice staff, good food. So happy I got on with my secret neck pillow bag inspired by @travel_with_cherryl (it’s blue like Grover😆)

🚎 Airport transport: Havaist Bus (204tl = $6) to the tram (about .30 cents!)

🏨 Hotel: cute and homey, booked with booking.com, about $50/night

Amazing nice thing that happened: I was trying to find the tram stop and didn’t notice I dropped my sweatshirt. This nice kid came running after me and handed it to me! 🙏💕🌟 What an awesome experience

🌲 I drove up to meet them in Big Sur, at Garrapata State Park in Big Sur. It was a beautiful drive up the California coast, through the rolling yellow hills of wine country.

🥾 Are up for Type 2 Adventure?

🥴 The Seven Teacups trail is only 5 miles, out and back, but is definitely not easy! I would call it Type 2 adventure!

💧Be prepared for a river crossing (bring your water sandals!), download the map for GPS navigation, and have fun rock scrambling!

🗺️ I navigate with @alltrails, and as a backup I use @gaiagps.

💀 If you go in the summer heat- BRING WATER! Bring like twice as much as you think you’ll need. I brought a 3L camelbak + two more water bottles, with electrolytes, and it was all gone by the end!

💦 (And don’t drop your water bottle down the falls! 😂🙄 Don’t worry, we were able to rescue it!)

🌲 We stayed at Fairview Campground, off Highway 99, one of the few campgrounds that can be reserved online

👀 It gets pretty packed over the weekend so I would suggest reservations or be prepared with some dispersed camping spots marked on your map.

🍔 Kernville has several restaurants and breweries, not to mention the whitewater rafting!
For rafting I recommend @sierrasouthmtnsport!

🏕️ A quick weekend getaway, even for one night can be so rejuvenating and rewarding!

🪨 Red Rock Canyon Canyon State Park is a quick 2 hour drive a bit north of Mojave. The towering rock formations remind me of the ancient city of Petra!

🛣️ Kernville is about an hour and a half further from Red Rock

💦 Splashing in the river in Kernville is always refreshing! And there’s whitewater rafting too!

🍔 There’s several campgrounds on Mountain Highway 99, with river access and a quick drive back to town to resupply or grab a burger!

🌲 We stayed at Fairview Campground

🔥 Dockweiler State Beach! The only beach in LA County to allow fires on the beach!

👉🏼 3 tips for the best beach bonfire experience!

Tip #1: ⏰ Get there early! We got there at 11:00, and ALL the firepits were taken!
We took over someone else’s pit that just left a couple of chairs there. They showed up hours later and we had to convince them that sharing is caring 😆

Tip #2: 🚗 The parking lot fills up around 4/5:00pm. If you’re inviting friends to come for sunset, make sure they know they may have to park far and walk. There were traffic guards that wouldn’t let people even drive down into the lot. FYI Parking is $13.

Tip #3: 🏖️ Bring shade! The California sun is blazing! Apply and reapply sunscreen. Actually there were some people on the beach selling shade umbrellas. We looked around and saw so many people had bought their umbrellas it was nuts!

Now, let’s talk about the food and drinks – an adventure in themselves! I had the Electric Avenue cocktail, complete with electric sparkle dust that turned my tongue blue!

🩵 I just loved the names of the other drinks. Enchanted Rain, Cosmic Void, and Total Eclipse of the Art, for some!

💚 There’s also mocktails like the Galactic Mermaid and Celestial Unicorn. So fun!

🍭 The food menu has snackie-style but substantial items like variations on Mac and cheese, fancy toast, popcorn and ice cream. You’ll have to look at the menu- everything looks delicious!

🤩 Fun Factor:
Hopscotch is a whole experience! Everything is interactive so you become part of the artwork! Be prepared to participate! (Or you could just walk through and watch others jump around, idk!🤷🏻‍♀️)

🌟 Final Thoughts:
Whether you’re a local or just visiting Portland, Hopscotch is a must-visit. The fun, interactive environment makes it a standout spot and the food menu and inventive cocktails are a cherry on top. I had an absolute blast, and would totally go back!

Slice of bread (any kind will do but this one is a a Forbidden Rice Batard from Whole Foods. It comes in a half loaf, perfect for a trip!)

Salami

Red bell pepper

Humus

Laughing cow cheese

Bring a knife to cut the pepper and spread the cheese and humus.

I also brought “Just a Handful of Olives” from Trader Joe’s as a salty snack
